COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The competition Through the Prize
Niccolò Castiglioni, the Cultural Foundation San Fedele, in
collaboration with the Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, intends to promote an
artistic production of new musical works of quality, in a one-year
course. And also to enable the young participants to mature an
experience in composing which will lead to the writing of a piece with
opportunities for reflection and creative workshops. The aim is to offer
young participants' a professional experience to create new works
performed in a concert from a topic given by the Prize. During the year,
applicants will be accompanied by renowned composers (Helmut Lachenmann, Stefano Gervasoni, Johannes Schoellhorn, Alessadnro Solbiati) and Magritte Trio
(Emanuela Piemonti, Francesco Senese, Luca Franzetti) together with the
clarinettist Paolo Beltramini. The final Prize consists, for the
finalists, in the realisation of a concert in the Auditorium San Fedele
in Milan and the recording on CD, for the winner, in the publication of
his work by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni.

Duration and location The
competition will have the duration of one year, October 2011/June 2012,
and will be held at the Fondazione Culturale San Fedele, Milan.
Candidates The
Prize is open to young Italian and international composers of
instrumental and/or vocal music born after the first of January 1976.
Registration
modality a)
pre-registration by email The registration module will be
available on-line on the link Premio Castiglioni of the site
www.centrosanfedele.net (premio giovani artisti). Candidates must send
the registration module by email in pdf, duly compiled and signed, at
sanfedelemusica@gmail.com before the
5th of September 2011. Along with the module they have to
present:
• at least two important scores of their production in
pdf; • the audio registration (mp3 or wma files) of at least one the
scores sent (if you do not have records of the scores sent, you can send
audio files of other works); • a curriculum vitae and a detailed
catalogue of their works (pdf); • a copy of a valid ID or passport
(pdf or jpg).
NB: within the 15th of September the 12/16
candidates of the Prize will be selected and published. The selection
will be based on the received material at the registration and will be
managed by the Responsible,
b) Registration by mail After September
the 15th, if selected, applicants must send by mail five copies of the
two scores on paper and five CDs with the recording of two works to:
Antonio Pileggi, Fondazione Culturale San Fedele Piazza San Fedele No 4,
20121 Milan.
NB: the delivered material will not be returned. If
selected, the material can be used, at discretion of the Director, for
printed publications or web publication on the web site of the
Fondazione San Fedele.
Implementation of the competition and regulations
Phase 1: Selection of the
12/16 candidates. See § Registration modality.
Phase 2: The 12/16 selected candidates participate in
a series of meetings presenting their musical work at the Fondazione
Culturale San Fedele (see paragraph § Presentation of the Work) and in a
series of training sessions, with the aim to study the theme proposed
during the course of the competition. To enrich the training sessions,
experts in creative processes will be invited in collaboration with the
Università Cattolica of Milan. The sessions will take place at the
Galleria San Fedele or at the Auditorium San Fedele and are mandatory to participate in the Prize.
Phase 3: At the end of the
presentation cycle will be selected from 4 to 6 finalists based on the
evaluation of the Responsible, the curator, the visiting professors and
the public. The finalists, after the presentation of the works, will
hold a final meeting in the month of December 2011 dedicated to the
project of the final concert in June 2012.
Phase 4: From January to April 2012, each candidate
has to compose a seven minutes score for the Trio Magritte and clarinet,
from the indications communicated by the Responsible. Between February
and March 2012, one meeting permit the young composers to valuate the
progress of their work in presence of composers and musicians (besides
the Responsible) during which critical considerations will be expressed
and advices proposed. Before the 15th of April 2012, each finalist has
to send the score in six copies including the instrumental parts,
together with a consent for registration and broadcasting, to Premio
Niccolò Castiglioni – Piazza San Fedele 4 – 20121 Milan), delivered by
hand or by certified mail.
The year ends with a concert in early
June 2012 in the Auditorium San Fedele in which the finalists pieces
will be performed. During the concert, a Jury of 5 members, which
includes the Responsible, will choice the Prize winner, whose score will
be published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni.
§ Presentation of the
Work The presentation meetings of the work of the candidates,
open to the public, will take place at the Fondazione Culturale San
Fedele and will be moderated by the Responsible of the music sector and
by a curator of his appointment. During each meeting 3 or 4 composers
will present their work who will have at their disposal an audio system
and a CD reader. Other means then the ones provided by the Fondazione
Culturale San Fedele will not be admitted. Before each meeting there
will be a time of preparation of the composers with the curator and the
Responsible. The visiting-professors, the curator and the Responsible
will provide an evaluation of the works that will be taken into account
for the selection of finalist candidates. NB: In case of
withdrawal of a participant the Responsible preserves the faculty of
substitution on his judgement.
The participation in the Premio
San Fedele is totally free. The entire initiative is on a non-profit
basis.
NB: subscribing the participation documents for the
competition implies the full acceptance of the award regulation. The
award direction will maintain the right to decide on all non specified
issues concerning the regulation. In case of dispute the Italian version
is authoritative. For any dispute the law court of Milan has
jurisdiction.
